It was the middle of the night when the sound of an unexpected car pulling up outside her house woke Alpha up. She nervously looked at the alarm clock and noticed it was already past midnight. Her heart started racing as she ran through her options in her head. Should she hide? Or pretend to be asleep and hope whoever it was would go away?
Alpha quickly decided on the latter, getting up from her bed and walking towards the window. She peeked out just in time to see Jim, her ex-boyfriend from college, stepping out of the car and making his way towards her front door. Her skin crawled at the sight of him; she'd managed to escape this toxic relationship years ago, and here he was, ruining her peaceful night once again.
Alpha's mind raced as she thought about what to do. She couldn't very well hide from him forever, and if she ignored him, he'd only get madder. With a deep breath, she steeled herself and opened the door just as Jim knocked again.
"What the hell do you want?" she asked him, her voice shaking with anger and fear.
Jim looked at her, his eyes wide with surprise. "Can't a guy come to see his ex-girlfriend without it being a problem?" he asked, trying to play it cool.
Alpha crossed her arms over her chest, feeling her fists clench at his audacity. "We're not together anymore, remember?" she reminded him, trying to keep her tone calm despite the raging storm inside her.
Jim stepped closer, invading her personal space. "Well, I missed you," he said, his voice low and threatening. "And I want you back."
Alpha took a step back, trying to put some distance between them. "Get out," she said firmly. "You have no right to be here, and I don't want anything to do with you."
But Jim wasn't letting her go that easily. He grabbed her arm roughly, his grip strong enough to make her wince. "You're coming with me," he said, his voice dark and menacing.
Alpha tried to yank her arm free, but his grip was like iron. She glanced around desperately, trying to find something - anything - that she could use as a weapon, but the lawn was empty and quiet.
Just then, she felt a rumble in her stomach. It was a combination of fear and anxiety that had been brewing all night, and now it was ready to explode. She took a deep breath and did the only thing she could think of to buy herself some time: she let one rip.
Jim's eyes went wide with shock as the fart echoed around them. "What the hell was that?" he asked, taking a step back.
Before he could recover, Alpha launched herself towards him, grabbing a nearby vase filled with flowers and bringing it down hard on his head. Jim crumpled to the ground with a loud thud, unconscious but hopefully harmless.
Alpha stood over him for a moment, catching her breath and trying to slow her pounding heart. She looked down at him, feeling a strange mix of relief and revulsion. "I hoped I wouldn't have to do that," she muttered under her breath, "but what a way to go out, eh?"
With that final thought, she grabbed her phone and called the police. Jim had crossed the line this time, and she wasn't going to let him get away with it - even if it meant facing the consequences herself.
