Aria woke up in a panic, her heart racing and her breath coming in short gasps. She groaned, trying to move away from the icy coldness that was seeping into her side. She glanced down at the sheets and felt her stomach clench in horror. There, on her bed, was a large puddle of lime green feces. She could see it oozing down towards the floor, leaving behind a slimy green trail.
She had never experienced anything like this before. She was supposed to be having a relaxing sleepover with her best friend, Lily. They had spent the entire day shopping, trying on clothes, and talking about boys. It was supposed to be a perfect night of giggles and secrets shared under the blankets. Instead, Aria was confronted with her own filth, an unmistakable odor wafting up to her nostrils.
Aria scrambled out of bed, her bare feet slipping on the cold tile floor. She couldn't bring herself to look at Lily, knowing the embarrassment written all over her friend's face. Instead, she grabbed a nearby towel and started blotting up the foul mess. Her hands shook as she tried to contain the smell, but it was no use. It was everywhere, permeating the air with its putrid scent.
"I'm so sorry, Aria," Lily whispered, her cheeks flushed with shame. "I thought I had gone to the bathroom before we went to sleep."
Aria wanted to believe her, but she couldn't help but feel betrayed. They had shared everything, from their deepest insecurities to their most intimate secrets. How could Lily keep something like this from her? The questions swirled around in her head, drowning out the sound of Lily's apologies.
She finished cleaning up the mess, watching as the once-vibrant green poop turned a dingy brown against the towel. Her stomach churned at the sight, and she wanted nothing more than to shower for hours to wash away the remnants of the nightmare. But she knew that wouldn't be enough. This was a stain that would linger for much longer.
They spent the rest of the night in silence, huddled together under their blankets. Aria couldn't bring herself to look at Lily, too consumed by the betrayal and embarrassment. She knew they would have to talk it out eventually, but not yet. She needed time to process what had happened and figure out if she could ever forgive her best friend for this.
As the sun began to peek through the curtains, Aria felt her resolve crumble. She took a deep breath and turned to face Lily. "We need to talk," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But not now. Let's go get some breakfast first."
Lily nodded silently, her eyes brimming with tears. They dressed in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Neither of them spoke during breakfast, and Aria could feel the tension building between them. They said their goodbyes at the door, each hug lingering for a moment too long before pulling away.
It took them weeks to finally talk it out, and even then, the wounds remained raw. They both knew their friendship would never be the same, tainted by the memories of that fateful night. But they also knew they couldn't walk away from each other just yet. They were bound by history, by secrets, by the promise of forever. Maybe one day, they would find their way back to the closeness they once shared. Until then, they would simply exist in each other's lives, a constant reminder of the double trouble that had once been.
